Welcome to the JIDC Blog, JIDC Postcards. The blog is organized by me, Alyson Kelvin, an Associate Editor for JIDC.
Let me introduce myself. I have a passion for hypothesis driven science. I am addicted to formulating scientific questions and the design of experiments to answer these questions. I love it. The chase. The excitement. The anticipation. The story building.
Only one thing comes before science in my life and that is my family. I have two amazing daughters, Han 4 and Klo 2, and a wonderful husband Jeff.
During my scientific training I could not keep still. In 2003, I completed my H.BSc. in Cell Biology at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Canada. At that point I wanted more out of my graduate work than cold scientific training. I wanted to learn the science culture outside of North America. So I packed up and moved to Belfast, UK, to study at the Queen’s University of Belfast, concentrating in cancer and immuno-cell biology. After completing my PhD I started a Post-Doc in Sardinia, Italy, studying infectious disease in the Mediterranean. This is where I became a part of JIDC.
